Flash compatibility question?
So, I recently got a box of various photo accessories at a garage sale, one of which appears to be nice, is a Vivitar Auto Thyristor 4600 System DM/C. I was wondering if it would be compatible with my current body, the Nikon D7000. If so, how would I go about using it? I highly doubt that it would sync with my body.

What you need to be concerned about is hot shoe voltage. Most digital SLR cameras will not tolerate voltages higher than about 6 volts at the hot shoe, and older flash units are typically much higher than this, sometimes as much as 250V. According to the flash voltage chart, the Vivitar 4600 has a trigger voltage of 19.5 volts. It is "your call" if you want to take a chance using it on your camera. If you do use the flash and it causes damage, be certain that Nikon will not cover any repair costs under warranty.
Here is the flash voltage trigger chart. My suggestion to you is to not use that flash. You can find plenty of safe flashes to use on your camera instead.
