Why Internet Control Isn't So Bad (Mobiledia)
The openness of the Internet is under threat from Facebook and Apple, and
government control, Google co-founder Sergey Brin said, claiming the U.S.
could turn into China or Iran. But is it really that bad?
"Very powerful forces that have lined up against the open internet on all
sides and around the world," Brin said in an interview with the Guardian. "I
am more worried than I have been in the past -- it's scary."
Brin claims the threat to Internet freedom comes down to a rise of "walled
gardens," or tightly controlled environments, such as Facebook and Apple, that
dictate what users experience, as well as countries like China, Iran and Saudi
Arabia, which censor and restrict Internet use.
There are trade-offs, of course. And companies like Apple and Facebook often
say controlling the user experience ensures a higher level of quality --
giving consumers something often don't often know they want. A "clean"
interface imposes order, often at the cost of openness. But the Orwellian
endgame Brin suggests is far from certain.

What type of filter would be better to use in night time photography?
I'm using colour negative film and i know i'll have to compensate a stop or two if I use the lee filter. I'm doing some street shots at the moment and I was wondering if it would be best to use an 80a filter or an 82a/b filter. I don't have any contact prints to hand to show you, but my images had a slight reddish orange cast on them from the street lights that I wanted to cool down abit.
The 80A increases the color temperature from 3200°K to 5500°K for the use with 3200°K lamps (incandescent lamps) This is the filter you will want to use
On 82 filters. They only may incremental changes in colour temperatures.
The 82A compensates Type A film for use with 3200ºK lighting.
The 82B when using tungsten Type B color film (3200°K) with ordinary household 100W electric bulbs (2900°K).
